Crytek’s Warface beta
I been playing the beta for a couple of days. The game requires a browser to play (IE not supported) You launch through yet another social media based browser site called gface. There are versus, coop, and clan modes of play. Out of the different modes of play, I have been playing a lot of coop. The coop mode can have up to 8 people on the team. The beta has 3 coop rounds you can play any given day. One is rookie level the other two are usually the harder setting, Pro. The rookie setting has Friendly Fire off. The Pro levels have it turned on. One of my earlier games I must have tked some guy cuz he was berating me in the lobby before the next round. :P~ There are daily Coop challenges every day. There is
a clan mode of play I haven’t gotten to since it would only be me so far (and maybe Wellbit).
In the Coop games it is important to have all the classes represented. Especially the Hard levels the AI can get nasty. It appears to be PvP for the server (matchmaking by the Crytek servers). Anyone can host a coop match and is the one who starts the round. People lobby up and hit ready and can join a game in play. When you join a round already running you have to wait for a checkpoint before the game will let you participate (you can spectate in the mean time).
Classes – since I brought them up there are 4 classes (duh)
Assault, Medic, Engineer, and Sniper.
You can rank up most of the classes fairly easy except the medic.
The Medic has a shotgun as the main gun. The shotty is powerful but only in close. When I played Medic (a thankless job) I had to use the pistol to get kills for the most part. Medic gets a med kit and can heal everyone including himself. And also has a defibrillator to rez people if he can get to them before timeout.
There are checkpoints if the Medic can’t get to you you will be raised from the dead at the next checkpoint. Provided the whole team is not wiped out (happens quite a bit on Pro setting) or you are at the end of the round. Even if you and are dead at the end you will get points. Winning rounds you will get the most points, obviously. First through third usually get a few more points.
I noticed that the one that usually gets the most points will be the one with the most kills…so the Assault (sometimes a Sniper) will get the high score most of the time.
get assault rifles and it is relatively easy to rack up kills.
has the ability to restore armor to everyone including himself. The engineer gets a sub machine gun – I put a scope on it and it can hit far away targets quite good. I have come in second many times in score as a Engie.
is, as usual, way easy. The base sniper rifle has good range and it’s a snap to hit the long range targets.
The Coop rounds are pretty linear. You start by riding a helo and it lands and you go out to do your mission. Each mission starts with the helo and ends with you jumping back on a another helo. Parts are just move and kill as you go. There is a Heavy gunner on the harder Coop rounds who has a chain gun with a buttload of ammo. You have to use team work to take him out because his only vulnerable spot is his back. If you shoot him he’ll turn toward you pretty quick.
It’s really hard to kill him by yourself. I saw it done on a couple of occasions (you can spectate and chat anyone alive while you are dead). One of those times was epic the guy killed him with a knife. Kept stabbing him and the both of them were spinning in circles.
I tried the same once and basically it wore me out circling his ass.
The hardest Pro level is the where you have to protect an area. Then in Pro levels the shyt hits the fan. The game will spawn the enemy wave after wave. The worst are the spec-ops enemies, the next are the baddies with the shotguns. The game will let you camp but not for long, then it will start putting snipers and spec-ops on you. They will head shot you. One round we got naded while still in the helo wiping out our medic and a couple of other guys we were basically eff-ed after that.
Game controls are the usual. There is prone and crouch. You can set prone to toggle or not and also set sprint to toggle or not. You can slide also. I can’t remember if there is Aim-down-sight toggle or not. No lean. It appears there are 3 types of commerce there are $ (you earn), Crowns (You earn), and some other one that looks like to get them means real $. There are plenty of unlocks. For some you select a vendor before starting a round. You will unlock the item then you can buy it with your winnings. So far I only crashed a couple times. It would get a sound effect (or music) that would loop over and over. The game would let me still play with the sound looping, end the round then hang up. Only once it hung up before the round was over. Visually the game looks similar to the latest COD games. I had no lag issues playing Coop. I will have to play some versus so I can give a report on that.
